Report of the Workshop

College organised ‘Workshop on Women Empowerment’ under Quality Improvement Program of Savitribai Phule Pune University, on the topics of women’s health and decision – making capabilities of the women. The resource persons for the workshop were Dr. Shilpa Kolarkar (B.A.M.S, P.G.D.C.R, M.D (Ayurved)) and Mr. Anand Pawar (Executive Director, Samyak, Pune).
The workshop started with a warm welcome address, playing of ‘Vidyapeeth Geet’, and was followed by introduction and felicitation of the resource persons.
Our first resource person - Dr. Shilpa Kolarkar, addressed the students on the topic – ‘Health & Safety Concern of Working Women. In her address, she talked about physical, mental, pathological aspects of women’s health; diseases which are commonly prevalent among women; diet and nutrition of the women; measures that women in particular and people in general can take to maintain their health and emotional well – being etc. It was followed with Question – Answer round.
Our second resource person – Mr. Anand Pawar, addressed the gathering on the topic – ‘Decision – Making Capabilities of Women in Unorganised Sector’. In his address, he spoke about how the term ‘gender’ is defined; patriarchy; types of discrimination commonly prevalent in a society etc. He emphasized that the decision – making capabilities of the women need to be strengthened and decisions taken by her should be respected by all. This session was followed with Question – Answer round.
The workshop concluded with a formal ‘Vote of Thanks’ and playing of ‘Vande Mataram’. Around 120 students and teaching staff participated in this workshop.
